Self-coloured materials, such as pigmented concrete, terrazzo and birch ply are used to make a calm space which contains the various additional accommodation requirements for an expanding family. This relatively "raw" palette makes a distinctive contrast with the traditional details of the existing Victorian house.

 

The thermal mass of the ground is used to provide ideal storage conditions for a collection of wine, which slides on a giant trolley into a compartment in the earth.
