“The Experiment with Integrated Environmental Solutions (I.E.S) tools in the envirolab has been driven by a conviction that better design at the scale of buildings and city will follow form a more informed understanding of the tasks that are traditionally within the design team, specifically in terms of developing greater environmental efficiency. In other words, architects should have a deeper understanding of the physics of environmental performance, and servicing engineers should have a better understanding of contextual and aesthetic aspects of design. In this paper we will examine the specific example of a design process which encourages an understanding of building physics, paying particular attention to the contribution made by simulation software.”
